Not only are larger tires more expensive, they add parasitic power loss and unsprung weight to your suspension system and drivetrain. This means less power and more chances to break. For perspective, in order to gain 1.5" of ground clearance, one would need to add 3 inches to their current tire size! A Ballistic Fabrication Shave kit achieves this by removing 1/2" off of the unused / non-contact portion of the ring gear and raises the bottom of the housing by welding a 1/2" thick steel patch plate to the bottom of the differential. This can be a labor intensive and potentially difficult task, even for the most talented fabricators and machinists.
