Hi ,
I hope you have had a great Feb!
This month, I wanted to share with you our recent trip and let you in our go-to hacks to optimise your light environment when away from home.
Andy and I spent a few days in total isolation in the wilderness of Kangaroo Island.
To my surprise, the wilderness was not as primal as I expected.
Whilst we had zero phone signal (great for reducing EMF exposure), and there was zero artificial blue light outside in sight, there was blue light everywhere inside our cabin.
The fire alarm light was blue, the cabin had a brightly lit wine fridge, and the digital alarm clock emitted white light.
Thank goodness we took our Blackout Sleep Masks so we could block out all the blue light inside the cabin and sleep (and if youre curious, I use the Low Profile Contoured Sleep Mask because it sits comfortably on my cheekbones and Andy loves the Deep Touch Pressure Therapy of the Classic Blackout Sleep Mask.
Another great hack is to take some black cable tape and cover up sources of blue light which is a good option for small objects that you can reach (and wont damage).
I never travel anywhere without my Blue Light Blocking Lamp. Nowhere we stay has circadian-friendly lighting, so I always take my own. This lamp is perfect as it folds completely flat, is USB rechargeable, and has up to 8 hours of battery life. I love that I can take it from the living room to the bedroom, to the bathroom, providing sleep-friendly lighting wherever I
need it.
I love that I can remove my Blue Light Blocking Glasses, take my makeup off and not impact my sleep with artificial blue light.
And before I go, let me tell you a funny story.
Whilst I was looking forward to a restful sleep, in total silence away from cars, people and the bustle of city life, nature had other plans. Oh my goodness, the noises outside when we turned off the lights. I was frankly petrified.
So, I sent Andy outside with our Blue Light Blocking Torch to investigate (there was no way I was going to sleep without knowing what that noise was sorry, Andy).
It turns out, whilst we humans are over here optimising our diurnal body clocks, there are a whole host of (quite frankly scary) animals that come to life at night.
If you want any of the amazing biohacking gadgets we used on our retreat, just use code KATIE15 for 15% off.
So until we chat again next month, sleep well!
