LANNING STAYING AT OREGON AMID ALABAMA RUMORS
The college football world was rocked on Wednesday when legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement from the sport. Moments after Saban's retirement was learned, the wheels started turning for many as to who would succeed Saban in Tuscaloosa. One of the most prominent names was Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, who has enjoyed two very successful seasons since coming over from Georgia. However, Lanning announced Thursday that he plans to stay at Oregon, and doesn't have any interest in pursuing any head coach vacancies.
Here's why Lanning has become such a popular name in recent head coaching searches, per Shehan Jeyarajah and David Cobb:
"Lanning has quickly emerged as one of the top up-and-coming coaches in college football after leading Oregon to a 22-5 record in two seasons, including a victory in the Fiesta Bowl. He coordinated the 2021 national championship defense at Georgia and also served as a graduate assistant under Saban at Alabama in 2015. He took over for another Saban assistant, Mario Cristobal, at Oregon before the 2022 season."
The Hot Ticket
Celtics at Bucks, 7:30 p.m. | TV: TNT
The Pick: Bucks -4.5 (-110)
Key trend: The Celtics are 3-5 ATS in their last eight games.
SportsLine expert Larry Hartstein is 7-2 in his last nine NBA ATS picks.
"Damian Lillard and Cameron Payne are back for the Bucks, who have a big rest advantage in this matchup. Boston traveled and is playing for the fifth time in seven nights, after Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday and Derrick White all played 40-plus minutes in Wednesday's overtime win over Minnesota. Kristaps Porzingis returns, but Al Horford likely will sit. Milwaukee has been stewing since a home loss to Utah on Monday and should capitalize on this scheduling spot."
