CLAYTON KERSHAW REPORTEDLY AGREES TO DEAL TO RETURN TO DODGERS
The Los Angeles Dodgers have had quite the offseason, highlighted by the acquisition of star pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani. The team continued to bolster its starting rotation on Tuesday when veteran left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with the Dodgers, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Kershaw is expected to undergo a physical on Thursday to make the deal official.
Here's more from CBS Sports MLB writers Matt Snyder and R.J. Anderson on what a returning Kershaw brings to the table:
"Kershaw, 35, will be pitching in his 17thMLB
season. Injuries have held him to 22, 22 and 24 starts, respectively, in the last three seasons but he's still been stellar when taking the hill, for the most part. In his 24 starts last regular season, he was 13-5 with a 2.46 ERA (177 ERA+, an identical mark as his 2022 season), 1.06 WHIP and 137 strikeouts against 40 walks in 131 2/3 innings. His velocity was diminished late in the season and he was held to essentially a five-inning pitcher, but he's still got the swing-and-miss and run prevention numbers to look like an ace."
The Hot Ticket
Magic at Heat, 7:30 p.m. | TV: NBA League Pass
The Pick: Under 213.5 (-110)
Key trend: The under is 8-2 in the Heat's last 10 games.
SportsLine expert Bruce Marshall is 6-4 in his last 10 over/under picks involving the Magic.
"There is a distinct possibility that Orlando is simply a better team than Miami these days. Orlando enters Tuesday having won four of their last five games and covered the spread in each of those contests. However, the pace has also been slower, which speaks to the discipline that Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley has instilled in his troops. Meanwhile, the Heat are also on a 16-4 "under" run, and these teams only reached 192 in their recent meeting a few weeks ago."
Here's what else SportsLine is saying about the game:The Projection Model has a "B" pick on the total, while having "C" picks on the spread and moneyline.Get one week of picks from SportsLine completely free with the promo codeNEWSLETTER*
