NFL PLANNING TO HAVE CHRISTMAS GAMES (ON A WEDNESDAY) IN 2024

The NFL appears to be set on scheduling games on Christmas, despite the fact that December 25 falls on a Wednesday in 2024. According to CBS Sports lead NFL Insider Jonathan Jones, the league is planning to schedule a doubleheader on Christmas in 2024. This comes as a shift, because as recently as three months ago, the NFL had indicated that it was not looking to hold any games on the holiday this year because the league said its preference was to focus on the overall competitive balance and having teams get ready for the playoffs.

Here's more from CBS Sports NFL writer John Breech on the last time the league had an originally scheduled Wednesday game on the docket:

Breech: "Since 1949, the only scheduled Wednesday game came in 2012 when the Giants played host to the Cowboys in Week 1 to open the season. The opening game of the year is generally played on Thursday, but the NFL moved it to Wednesday to avoid a conflict with the Democratic National Convention."
