Today's top story
MARKET HEATING UP FOR YOSHINOBU YAMAMOTO
Right-handed starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto is one of the top free agents remaining on the open market and is expected to earn more than $300 million from whichever team he signs with. The Mets, Yankees, and Dodgers have expressed significant interest and are courting the Japanese ace. However, the Phillies have emerged as likely suitors for Yamamoto, and have been very aggressive in their pursuit of the star pitcher.
Here's more from CBS Sports MLB writer Dayn Perry on the Phillies' pursuit of Yamamoto:
"As Ken Rosenthal reports, the Phillies under lead decision-maker Dave Dombrowski are committed to be more active when it comes to landing top-line talent from Asia, and that figures to remain a goal this winter even if they miss out on Yamamoto. Speaking of Yamamoto, Bryce Harper, the Phillies' biggest star, did his part to sell the coveted moundsman on the charms of playing in Philly."
The Hot Ticket
Eagles at Seahawks, 8:15 p.m. | TV: ABC and ESPN
The Pick: Eagles -3.5 (-115)
Key trend: The Seahawks are 3-4 ATS in their last seven home games.
SportsLine expert Adam Silverstein is 36-21-3 in his last 60 NFL ATS picks involving the Eagles
"This line is down two full points from the lookahead. Consecutive blowout losses to the 49ers and Cowboys compounded by consecutive covers for the Seahawks despite Seattle being depleted offensively has created a scenario in which the Eagles hold value in this road spot. The last two losses have been terrible, but Philadelphia has been through a gauntlet the last month, a stretch during which it was a few plays from going 1-4 instead of 3-2. Seattle, meanwhile, is 5-2 ATS at home and 7-0 against Philly under Pete Carroll, though it only has two straight up wins against teams over .500 this season. Are the Eagles really going to lose three straight and not take this opportunity to reverse course?"
