UCLA HIRES ALUM DESHAUN FOSTER TO REPLACE CHIP KELLY AS HEAD COACH
On Friday, the UCLA football program was forced to deal with an unexpected vacancy after former head coach Chip Kelly left to take the offensive coordinator job at Ohio State. Just days after Kelly left the program, the Bruins have filled the head coaching vacancy with former UCLA star DeShaun Foster. Foster worked as an assistant coach under Jim L. Mora and Kelly before being hired as the Las Vegas Raiders running backs coach just 10 days ago. However, Foster will return to his alma mater for his first head coaching gig.
Here's more from CBS Sports college football writer Will Backus on Foster's coaching experience:
Backus: "Foster was inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022 following a brilliant career with Bruins from 1998-2001 in which he finished with 44 touchdowns and 3,129 yards rushing, both of which rank top-three in program history. He spent seven years in the NFL and began his coaching career in 2013 as a student assistant at UCLA under Mora. He was a graduate assistant with the Bruins from 2014-15 and returned to the staff in 2017 as running backs coach, a title he held through the 2023 season. He also has a brief stint at Texas Tech (2016) on his rsum."
The Hot Ticket
Bulls at Hawks, 7:30 p.m. | TV: NBA League Pass
The Pick: Hawks -4 (-111)
Key trend: The Hawks are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games.
SportsLine expert Sia Nejad is 2-1 in his last three NBA picks.
Nejad: "This Hawks team has been impressive over the last two weeks with some solid wins (against the Warriors and Suns), while the Bulls have been coasting to some wins against a relatively soft schedule. The Hawks have also been covering ATS at an impressive rate over that same stretch. I like how the Hawks have been trending and I like the plethora of contributions that they can get from their entire starting five. I'm counting on the home team to continue its stellar stretch in this spot."
