CLEMSON FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST ACC IN ATTEMPT TO BREAK GRANT OF RIGHTS AGREEMENT
Much like Florida State, Clemson has filed a lawsuit against the ACC to break the conference's Grant of Rights agreement. The suit was filed in Pickens County (South Carolina), and coincides with Florida State's previous lawsuit against the ACC on similar grounds. Clemson believes that the ACC's exit fee is quite large, and believes that the conference's control of media rights keeps the school from doing what is right for itself as an institution.
Here's more from CBS Sports college football writer Shehan Jeyarajah on what Clemson is seeking in the suit:
Jeyarajah: "In the suit, Clemson is asking a judge to ultimately void the exit fee and grant the university all of its media rights for games that take place after the university opts to exit the league. Clemson calculates the exit fee at $140 million, not counting the number to buy out the remaining decade of media rights. Even if the judgment goes through, however, it does not guarantee that Clemson would receive an invite to either the SEC or the Big Ten if it were to leave the ACC."
The Hot Ticket
NCAA Tournament, First Four: Howard vs. Wagner, 6:40 p.m. | TV: TruTV
The Pick: Howard -3 (-110)
Key trend: Howard has covered the spread in three of its last five games.
SportsLine expert Micah Roberts is 4-3 in his last seven ATS picks.
Roberts: "Howard finished strongly as they won its last three games to get into the NCAA Tournament. Prior to that, the Bison were also on-point were on point with wins in four of their final five regular season games. Howard shot 45.1% from the field and 37.4% from beyond the arc, which is 20th in the nation. Meanwhile, Wagner is one of the worst shooting teams in the country (39.2%) and has one of the poorest ratings in all of college basketball."
