Happy Friday, sports fans.
The home teams have a huge opportunity for a get-right night tonight as both the Timberwolves and Rangers will be looking to show that losing your series opener in your own building doesn't have to be a death sentence. But, on the road this postseason, the
Mavericks are 5-2 and the Panthers are 5-1, so maybe those Game 1s aren't exactly outliers with these two clubs. As for the Pacers, the question will be how (and if) they can respond on their home floor tomorrow --
with or without injured star guard Tyrese Haliburton

Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch says the team had a "rough film session" following Game 1 loss.
Ravens are converting former Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham to a wide receiver during OTAs.
White Sox/Orioles game ends on controversial, strange interference call.

SURPRISING THINGS THAT COULD HAPPEN IN THE NFL IN 2024
The 2024 NFL offseason is just about in the books, and teams are beginning to shift their focus towards training camp and the regular season. The landscape of the league has certainly seen quite a bit of change since the Kansas City Chiefs hoisted the Lombardi Trophy in February. As CBS Sports NFL scribe Cody Benjamin writes, there are several things that would've seemed preposterous in 2023 that now seem extremely plausible in 2024. One of those could be Justin Fields replacing Russell Wilson as the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Benjamin: "Going into 2023, Fields was fresh off his first full year as a Chicago Bears starter, in which he became just the third quarterback to ever top 1,000 rushing yards. Wilson, meanwhile, was just getting to know new Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton, primed to rebound from a disastrous Mile High debut. A year later, both veterans are competing in Pittsburgh following the abrupt exit of former first-round pick Kenny Pickett. Wilson is the safer bet to open the year under center due to his experience, but Fields' upside could eventually convince Mike Tomlin and Co. to roll the dice."
The Hot Ticket
Game 2: Mavericks at Timberwolves, 8:30 p.m. | TV: TNT
The Pick: Timberwolves -5.5 (-111)
Key trend: The Timberwolves are 3-3 ATS in home games in the 2024 postseason.
SportsLine expert Micah Roberts is 5-4 in his last nine ATS picks involving the Mavericks.
Roberts:"This is the best shot we have to bet Minnesota to win and cover in Game 2 following the Game 1 loss. The first thing that the Timberwolves need to recognize is that Anthony Edwards is their star asset. At no time should Karl-Anthony Towns be shooting 20 shots more than Edwards. They must feed Edwards throughout the game in order to be effective. Minnesota only shot 43% from the field in Game 1, but had only 10 turnovers. Expect makeup calls at the free-throw line as the Timberwolves only had 18 free throws in Game 1."
