New study: Beneficial effects of NR and PTin a sun exposure model

A research collaboration between Elysium Health and Weill Cornell Medicine recently published a study demonstrating the benefits of

nicotinamide riboside (NR) and

pterostilbene (PT) in a preclinical model of sun exposure.

Dr. Richard Granstein, chair of the Department of Dermatology at Weill Cornell Medicine and Elysium Health Scientific Advisory Board member, served as the principal investigator.

The study exposed mice to UVB, the high energy component of sunlight that impacts the outermost layer of the skin, and saw decreased tissue swelling and immune suppression in mice fed with NRPT compared to control. UVB radiation causes inflammatory effects (assessed as tissue swelling) and suppression of the normal immune response in the skin. Interestingly, the beneficial effects of NRPT were greater than treatment with NR or PT alone, demonstrating a synergistic effect between the two compounds in the skins response. Further research is required to determine if these benefits can be extended to humans.

systems, including your heart. Personal health and wellness reporter Alex Janin covers the technology available to measure heart aging (including Index) and speaks to experts about the potential value in monitoring personal health.
