It's all about an explosion of colour today, plus solving shady spaces or those that receive less sunshine and are part shaded for a good portion of the day - which just about covers a spot in every garden going! Amongst the most colourful, and tolerant plants for a touch of shade are the Rhododendrons, although a sunny spot is also no problem as they're tolerant of a brighter situation too, these easy to grow evergreen shrubs are amazing value - our plants are substantial with many in bud and bloom now, we've priced them the Gardening Express way - instead of 25-30 each they're now under a tenner! We're expecting we'll have a few sell outs so do be quick if you see one you fancy.
Moving on for foliage in those shady areas, and great great cover, how about a mix of Hosta's and ferns? The colours and textures of both are quite amazing, plus Hosta's also carry spires of small lily like flowers later in the summer. For yetmore colour, we've also got our Hardy Fuchsias and Astilbe - these thrive in a bright spot or partially shaded one, as do our Alstroemeria plants, which will provide yet another colour explosion - buds are coming on many of these right now too!
