And not in a good way
Its no secret that Instagram filters and photoshopped pictures are killing confidence left and right.
But what if we told you theres more to this epidemic of less than and self-conscious feelings?
Theres something else happening far + wide, fracturing confidence in physical appearances in a much deeper way.
Its called perception drift.
Its a psychological reaction that can occur when someone begins investing in treatments to alter their physical appearance. Even if its a slight change, your brain reacts.
How?
Your brain actually resets its baseline of normal for your appearance after you change it.
And from there, it continues to find the next thing to fix.
And the next thing
and the next thing
You can probably see where this is going.
Over time, your perception drifts so far that you lose touch with your original physical appearance. This has been studied and coined by a dermatologist named Sabrina Fabi, who saw this happening with many of her patients after getting work done. She noticed things tend to quickly get out of hand.
So youre probably thinking:
How do I know if perception drift is happening to me?
Does it still affect me if I havent gotten much work done?
Is there any way to combat it?
This is an important and touchy subject, but its a conversation were proud to provide for our community of beautiful and inspiring people.
There is hope and light, and we hope youll find it on our latest Pure Life blog all about perception drift + restoring confidence.
