"When designing the coin, my goal was to represent the history of the RCAF and its future with Canadas acquisition of the new F-35 fighter jet. The F-35 Lightning II would be the focal point of the design, and I wanted it to look as if it was

about to zoom off the coin. Tilting the aircraft at an angle added the impression of great speed in a climb. The unusual stealth design of the F-35 is a mixture of angular shapes on the upper fuselage and very organic forms on the underside. Adding angular ray shapes to the sky gives the design a somewhat retro feel combined with the rounded cloud forms below, and this mirrors the fighters shapes. Two prominent aircraft from the RCAF's past are featured in the distance, giving the scene a sense of great depth."David Moore,
