I wish someone told me this before I had my baby 😮

Why did not one tell me.

Why did not one tell me.
Hey Tim
I am a Mum to two beautiful boys and before I had them I had lots of friends with kids and thought I was pretty well prepared with what to expect.
I just wish some of my friends had been a bit more honest with me about some things.
What I wish they told me.
When you get home with your new baby you may feel a little well lost. I remember thinking "um ok now what do I do" This baby did not come with a user guide and I did a tonne of googling things like "what should baby poo look like" Is it normal for my nipples to bleed?"
It's totally normal if you feel this way and yep this is a learn-on-the-job kinda gig but you will pick it up quickly. Just remember no two babies are the same so try to avoid comparing what works for others and do what works for your family.
Three to four days after your baby is born you will most likely get "baby blues" This is due to the HUGE shift in your hormones and you may feel like crying A LOT for no apparent reason. (is't being a woman just great! )
Your doctor or midwife may have mentioned this to you but for me, I feel like they kind of brushed over it and I wasn't expecting it to hit SO hard. Again everyone is different and it can be mild for some and intense for others. Just know it will pass and it's totally normal.
Ok prepare yourself for TMI -
Your first poo will be scary and painful AF! I seriously wish someone told me this because I thought something was majorly wrong with me. It may take days for you to go again after birth in particular if you have a C-section or an epidural. If you are offered stool softeners TAKE THEM. They will be your best friends.
Breast feeding is NOT always easy and the most natural thing in the world. Getting your baby to latch and feel easily may take some time and it may be painful and frustrating. Seek help if you need it from a lactation consultant (most hospitals have lactation clinics you can drop into)
Your feeding journey is yours and yours alone so remember it's about what is best for you and your baby. Fed is best.
I really hope this honest guide to coming home with a baby helps and I wish you all the very best with your motherhood journey.
Much love from one Mum to another.
Ruth xoxo
