Mike shares the story behind his most cherished album.
A meaningful family antique
SeaVees was born in '64 and rediscovered in a thrift store. Were all about giving something old a second life, so we asked a few of our friends to share the stories behind the things theyve held onto. Our digital designer, Mike Del Campo, shares his most cherished album.
I knew my grandfather was a musician, a mariachi player, but as far as the details went, I knew very little. He wouldnt talk much about his experience with music when he was spending time with the family...One day I was flipping through some old albums at an estate sale when I came across one that caught my eye. It was the name on the cover that stopped me in my tracks.
"Id always collected antiques but none of it ever really connected with me beyond being aesthetic. That album was the first thing Id found that connected me to my roots as an American-born Mexican. I never understood why my family would bawl their eyes out whenever mariachi music would come on, but now when I play that album and hear my grandfathers voice, I get pretty emotional."
