Relive the Roar of '84!
"Bless You Boys"
WDIV sportscaster Al Ackerman coined the phrase Bless You Boys in 1983 when the Detroit Tigers baseball team finally got a long-awaited win. Then in 1984 when the team hit a surprising series of wins, the phrase took on a life of its own, becoming a local and national rallying call as the Detroit Tigers went on to a World Series win that year!
The Roar of '84
On October 14th, 1984, our Detroit Tigers roared to victory, clinching the World Series title!
With an 8-4 win over the San Diego Padres in Game 5, this day marked our first championship since 1968.
