For hundreds of years prior to the arrival of Europeans, many different indigenous groups would come together at a settlement called Pecos Pueblo in what is now north-central New Mexico.

They'd meet together, communicate, trade with and come to appreciate individuals foreign to themselves all with different customs, dress, languages, and perspectives.

It became one of the largest communities in the entire region.

Ruins of the village are now preserved as a part of Pecos National Historical Park.
