Where's the "rim weight" ?

Hyper Super Spin

One of the words that gets used to describe the Denfly line of discs is balanced. Being well balanced means that the machining and craftsmanship that went into making the rim was such that a thrower won't find the imperfections that are present in other discs. If someone has ever taken a basketball and spun it up in the air to see if it is warped or put a pool stick on the table and rolled it to see if it's straight, then they will understand. The Hyper Super Spin is balanced and true. This disc is ideal for emerging throwers with above average strength and consistent release. The Hyper Super Spin has a slightly different rim angle making it better for head wind throws than the others.

Ultimate Spin

To be called the Ultimate Spin means that this disc can rotate slightly faster than the Hyper Super Spin thanks to the slightly broader rim. The wider rim means that more of the rim weight is drawn to the center. If someone has ever watched a figure skater spinning on the ice with their arms out and then pulled in and seen the skater's rotational velocity accelerate incredibly, the same is true when some of the rim weight is pulled towards the middle. Many people are surprised to learn that the rim weight of the Hyper Super Spin, the Skymaster and the Ultimate Spin are all just about the same... it's WHERE that weight is placed that makes the difference. As a thrower's speed in the circle increases and their release becomes even better, the Ultimate Spin is the perfect next disc after mastering the Hyper Super Spin.

Skymaster

At first glance people can tell right away there is something different about the Skymaster. But their conclusion is often wrong. They look at it and think this disc has very little rim weight, but that could not be further from truth.

The rim weight is still there but is under the plate, centered between the top and bottom. This creates a fly-wheel effect and dampens errant releases. To understand, think about rolling a car tire down the street. All the weight of the sidewalls exaggerates the wobbles. But then picture rolling a coin. The coin doesn't wobble as all the weight is concentrated in the middle.

So put this disc in the hand of the strong thrower who doesn't have the smoothest release and watch the wobbles stabilize. With a better flight the disc is more aerodynamic and results in a further throw for the strong thrower with an imperfect release.

Space Traveler

As anyone can see, this discus was built completely differently. Although perfectly balanced like the rest of the Denfly line, the Space Traveler is made with more displaced weight than any other disc built. Many have attempted to duplicate this design so clearly there must be a good reason to copy it. The Space Traveler moves the rim weight towards the center but along the outer edges. This means two things, 1st, this disc will spin faster than almost any other discus on the market and that can help create a more stable flight. 2nd, the thrower's release MUST be perfect. This discus can not be put in the hand of any thrower who does not have a perfect release; any wobble will only be made way worse. So think of the Space Traveler for the thrower who isn't the strongest on the team but whose disc progresses around the circle a smooth plain and who has a flawless release and this disc will go a long, long way!
