In March, we celebrate the outstanding achievements of women in the wine industry on International Womens Day 2023, with a focus on Puchang () Vineyard, a family estate located in Xinjiang. Also, we go to a local food stall on an adventure to discover wine pairing with Dai Pai Dong () food!

The dining experience is enhanced by gourmet delicacies and the finest of wine, and here we feature Shang Palace at Shangri-La Paris, the only Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant in France, in the Confidences by Watsons Wine #2. Head sommelier Maxime VERDIER has compiled a selection of 12 Bordeaux chteaux, each label paired with a dish created by Chinese chef Samuel LEE. We will reveal this outstanding hidden menu, and other hidden menus, each Monday in the coming weeks on our website!

Mastrojanni Rosso di Montalcino 2020 was the first wine I drank in 2023, during an impeccable dinner at my friends Italian restaurant.

When I gently swirled the wine, lovely floral notes emerged. Soft in the mouth, with plum and blackberry flavours, it was fresh and long with an elegant finish defined by beautifully balanced tannins. It paired perfectly with the pizza and spaghetti Bolognese! The wine made our night! With its fresh finish and fine tannins, I believe it would be great option for rich meaty dishes like traditional siu mei!

Mastrojanni winey is in Montalcino, in the hamlet of Castnuovo dellabate. Given the exceptional vineyard location, it always delivers a delightful expression of fully ripe Sangiovese grapes. I heartily recommend this ever-impressive wine. It is a label which definitely needs to be in your wine fridge!
