Im a new CPA, working for a firm. I want to build my own practice on the side and eventually shift to that full time. What's the most effective way of getting clients? I've been doing drop-ins at local businesses and giving them my cards or sending out cold emails, and Im not seeing a lot of traction yet. Are there any better ways that I can approach this?
Response:
A great way to start picking up new clients is to join your local State CPA Society and become active with their events to network. Some State Societies also have a website that offer opportunities to market your services. Additionally, going to your local Chamber of Commerce events are a great way to network within your community.
Id also suggest utilizing social media to also check out local firms and reaching out to them, with the intent of setting up meetings with them.
Of course, hiring a marketing team is always an option, but when youre just starting out, this may not be the most fiscally responsible choice.
Setting up a website is also a good way to attract new potential clients. If you have any past clients, ask for quotes to put on the website as well. And, if you choose to use Google, ask past clients for references.
