That, however, doesnt mean all of Oakville is created equal. Some areas within the prized appellation carry even more well-earned cachet than their counterpartsand the aptly named Money Road is one of them.

Money Road slices through Oakvilles tenderloin. Located not far from Opus One, the vineyards on Money Road rub shoulders with Groths Reserve Blockthe sweet spot that produced California's first 100-point wineand sit just a stones throw from where some of the most renowned labels in Napa Valley grow grapes.

Our friend makes an Oakville-labeled Cabernet from Money Road just about every year, but in 2021, his source could only offer him enough grapes to make about four barrels. So he made the wine, but when it came time to bottle, he decided against bottling the small quantity, which would only result in about 100 cases. Thats when he called us.

Bright, effusive aromas of fresh black cherries, ripe vanilla bean, toasted dark chocolate, cardamom, cinnamon, mixed red and black berries, opulent floral tones of violet, and blackcurrants. Palate-filling and bold, with ripe, firm tannins integrated nicely into smooth acidity and flavors of dark plums, vibrant cedar, exotic spices, fresh leather, black olives, and nutmeg.
