If Hosannas pricing and accolades havent caught up to its neighborsPetrus ($5,000), Lafleur ($1,300), La Fleur-Ptrus ($255), and Vieux Chteau Certan ($400)its solely because its such a young chteau.
The tiny estate only dates back to 1999. Thats when the Moueix family jumped at the chance to buy the property next to their crown jewel, Petrus. They saw vineyards with some of the finest terroir in all of Bordeaux: Hosannas 4.5 hectares boast the coveted blue-clay soils that give root to the finest bottles in Pomerol. But in its previous incarnation, the chteau was an underperformermaking a perfect opportunity for one of the worlds great winemaking families to realize the potential of their investment.
They renamed the property Chteau Hosanna. They poured energy and expertise into it, bringing it up to the Moueix standard over the next two decades. The team made the decision to make the wine at La Fleur-Ptrus, where they bought concrete and stainless steel tanks and then added two laser-based sorting tables to ensure only the most perfect berries make it into the wine.
Hosannas price has slowly risen alongside its quality, but its still hands-down one of the best investments in blue-chip Bordeaux, and the 2020 is undoubtedly one of the greatest editions. Its big and boldmore than one reviewer mentions this as a bottle for Napa Cab loversthe product of a stunning, warm season that Wine Advocate declared produced brilliant wines with plush fruit and silky tannins. For collectors and lovers of top Bordeaux, its a cant miss.
