Under-$75, single-vineyard Oakville Cab
Hello
WineAccess
Dear Insider,
Opus One. Beckstoffer To Kalon. Mondavi To Kalon. Those vineyards occupy three of the corners at the intersection of Highway 29 and Oakville Crossroadone of the most sacred spots in the world of Cabernet. The fourth corner is home to the organically farmed Pelissa Vineyard, the source of the 2019 Chris Hamilton Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Wlf Oakvilleone of the greatest Cabernet buys in Napa Valley. I was in disbelief when I tasted this phenomenal Cab, learned of its source, and then found out the price. Seductive and brooding, loaded with boysenberry and dark chocolate, this stellar bottling comes from the family behind Ghost Block, and it was grown on a site whose neighbors wines commonly cross into $400+ territory. Its got Oakville power, its got finesse, its got the posh pedigreeand weve got it for a best-in-the-nation $70. Click here to claim your share. This outstanding wine was made for Chris Hamilton by the Pelissa family, highly influential vignerons in Oakville and Yountville for five generations. The Pelissas and the Hoxseys, their extended family, are the team behind Ghost Block Estate Wines and the vineyard of the same name. Their winery, Napa Wine Company, is the only in California with a bonded winery number in the single digits (#9)a testament to their longevity and deep roots in the world of wine. Proprietor Chris Hamilton chose a wolf motif for his brand because he feels its his spirit animal, standing for loyalty, strength, and characterall values he holds dear. However, only this Cabernet bottling bears the name Wlf, which is a nod to his wife Heidis German heritage. The red on the label is the same shade used by Ferrarithe preferred vehicle of Hamilton, a former amateur racer. The Pelissa Vineyard has been farmed organically since being planted in 1998, and the 21-year-old vines are really hitting their stride. A case of this wine is going to cruise through 10 years in a cool cellar with no problem, and will improve over the journey. Its simply unheard of to find a Cabernet from this sacred area of Oakville for just $70, so I recommend you join me in claiming a few bottles.
