The spring of 1972 was when Fred Furth, founder of Chalk Hill, discovered the plot of land that would soon become the site of his world-class vineyard. While America was entrenched in the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal had not yet come to light, Fred was tilling the soil and planting the vines. After years of hard work, his wines began winning awards and earning the attention and praise of the wine community. Current proprietor Bill Foley continues Fred's vision for his winery, as a team working in tandem from beginning to end: the growers follow the same practices as the winemakers and cooperate at the highest levels.
