We werent sure what to think about this sample when we saw the label. I mean, its a little out there but the more you look at it the more it sort of grew on us. But lets be honest its not about whats on the outside of the bottle, but the juice that is inside that really matters. And let me tell you, this 10-year-old Sangiovese is simply fantastic!

Yes, 10 years old! Meaning it hails from the iconic 2013 Vintage one of the BEST VINTAGES EVER in California! Its one of those vintages where the great wines are stupendous and the good wines are fabulous as is the case with this perfectly aged Santa Barbara Sangio. The gentle winds from the western opening to the Pacific Ocean push these cooling winds through the Santa Barbara region, allowing the grapes to maintain wonderful acidity while the fruit and sugars concentrate throughout the growing season. Which is why Pinot and Chard do so well here as does Sangiovese! There just arent many wineries with the courage to plant it but the risk paid off big time here, as this is a beautifully elegant, balanced, structured and flat out tasty bottle of wine.

The only thing better than how it tastes is the price!! As for Under $15 a bottle by the case, I defy you to find a better 10-year-old wine drinking in its absolute peak than this one. There were tiny amounts of this wine produced years ago, and since they only could find a handful of cases of this hidden gem deep in their cellar, the available inventory and allocation is miniscule.
