Podcasting 101 for Writers
The Writer's Digest Tutorials program offers a wide range of writing and publishing education in a way that's easy to access on your schedule. With a bank of more than 400 videos and new ones added every month, the Tutorials program covers the big topics and some that are a little more specialized.
In this issue, podcast producer and sound designer Jaimi Ryan breaks down the podcasting process for writers who are interested in harnessing this medium for their own writing success.
"After today, you'll have a better understanding of how a podcast gets created, feel less stressed about it, and overall have the process demystified," says Jaimi Ryan. "A lot of new podcasters don't realize that podcasting actually is a fair amount of work."
To help get to this point, Ryan covers podcasting from the inception of the idea to distributing episodes, including pre-production, production, and post-production of the podcast.
"Before you even get into episode ideas, styles, outlines, any of that other pre-production planning, I would recommend asking yourself a series of questions about what your goals and values are for the project," explains Ryan. "Is it important to get more eyes on your work? Do you have financial goals? Do you have community connection goals? Is this for professional development? ... There are a million reasons why you could make a podcast, but figure out what those are for you."
