Ad blockers weathered the YouTube storm
Last year was marked by an intensified crackdown on ad blocking by YouTube. The Google-owned video-playing and ad-serving behemoth took on ad blockers in earnest, bombarding their users with ominous warnings and cutting off video playback for them.
As the tug-of-war heated up, some went so far as to predict the imminent demise of ad blockers. In reality, however, ad blockers not only learned to outmaneuver YouTubes ever-changing anti-adblock scripts, but also managed to piggyback off the media attention surrounding the YouTubes crusade.
The number of uninstalls spiked, but so did the number of installs. And when it comes to the number of active users, YouTube's offensive ended up not having much of an impact on our expectations. Check out the article below to see for yourself (cool graphs included!).
