Thought Id add a bit of personal touch today since half-term is around the corner and a lot of us are going on holiday with our kids.
Ive always had a handy checklist in the notes app on my iPhone that helps me think about the things I usually dont give much importance to.
And I like to word them as questions so that my brain can go into overdrive as soon as I read them out loud.
Well - here they are - I hope theyre valuable to you.
1. Have I Got All My Essential Medicines?
This really is a big one which is why weve put it right at the top. Because if the food you eat when youre away from home doesnt sit well with your stomach, things can really spiral out of control very (very) quickly. I mean youll have trouble keeping yourself together if youve eaten something that your gut outright rejects. Which is why its always best to make sure youve got a supply of essential medicines (like Imodium and Oral Rehydration
Salts) so that incase of any food related mishaps - you can pull yourself together and function without much disruption.
2. Whats My Signature Scent For Success?
A good scent does more than just keep you smelling fresh - it's like an invisible introduction before you even say hello. Especially when you're out there to make some quality first impressions, what you smell like can be as memorable as your handshake. So when you're picking out a fragrance go for the one that feels like "you" but with a dash of presence. It could be the comforting old spice that people remember or that earthy woods vibe that calms the room. Just make sure
the scent is not too overwhelming but still gets a lot of attention.
3. Can I Connect With My Office, Family And Friends Immediately?
Roaming charges have always been a massive headache (in terms of cost) whenever we travel abroad. Even though the carrier weve got at home gives us a good deal in terms of pricing, when you arrive at your destination and you cant get a signal - those deals dont matter anymore. You need to have a signal when you land. And our eSIM
does just that. Because weve signed up to multiple carriers, our eSIM starts hunting for the strongest signal available to it as soon as you switch to it on your phone. It connects to it right away and makes sure you remain connected. If at any point, that signal starts to become weak, our eSIM jumps right back in and looks for a stronger signal. The WorldSIM eSIM
is the only eSIM that does this - others simply stick with one network provider regardless of whether the signal is strong or not.
4. Do I Have Sufficient Clothing In-Case The Weather Takes A Turn?
Every destination has its own set of weather whims. Whether its the sudden downpour in tropical regions or a cooler-than-expected breeze in the Mediterranean, being prepared with my kids is the key. Check the weather forecasts, pack a versatile wardrobe, and don't forget a compact umbrella or a stylish hat to shield you from unexpected weather surprises.
5. Wheres My Charger And The Adapter That Goes With It?
In a world governed by the charge of our devices Ive always got to make sure Ive got the right adapters and chargers. The worst thing ever would be to turn up to your hotel room running low on charge and not having the right adapter to fit the plug. Yeah - hotels nowadays do make some sort of provision to keep a handful of adapters handy but you can never quite be too sure. So make sure youve packed those chargers (and those often overlooked adapters).
6. Ive Got My Sunscreen - Do I Really Need The Insect Repellent?
Yes you do - especially if youre jetting off to somewhere hot where the sun's out (and so are the bugs). Make sure youve packed your insect repellent with your sunscreen. Im sure youre looking forward to getting a bit of a tan, but its the bugs youve got to watch out for. It only takes a few innocent bites to get the itching going and if youre somewhere tropical - mosquitoes are ones to be weary of. It really doesnt take long for
Malaria (or Dengue Fever) to hit you like a wrecking ball!
7. Do I Have Enough Emergency Money?
Incase of theft or loss - Its always good to have enough cash at hand to get yourself home or (atleast) to a hotel for 2-3 nights. This is something we dont plan for nowadays because were so heavily reliant on debit/credit cards. Some places around the world still rely heavily on hard cash to get around so its always to have a plan B for those unexpected moments.
Let me know if you find these questions useful.
And if youve got better ones on your checklist, please share them with me.
Take care.
