Do you know the history of Fry Sauce?
There are two competing claims about the origin of fry sauce.
Don Carlos Edwards, founder of the Utah-based fast-food chain Arctic Circle, is said to have created fry sauce in the late 1940s. Edwards is said to have mixed ketchup and mayonnaise together to create a tangy-sweet-savory condiment that was perfect for french fries. Arctic Circle still serves fry sauce in its restaurants today.
Max Peay and Ron S. Taylor, two teenage employees at an Arctic Circle franchise in Provo, Utah, are also said to have invented fry sauce in the mid-1950s. Peay and Taylor are said to have mixed ketchup and mayonnaise together as a way to spice up the food at the restaurant. Their creation quickly became popular with customers, and soon other restaurants in Utah began serving fry sauce as well.
Ultimately, it is unclear who truly invented fry sauce. However, it is clear that the condiment has become a staple of Utah cuisine. Fry sauce is excellent on french fries, burgers, hot dogs, and many other dishes. It is also a popular condiment for dipping chicken nuggets, onion rings, and other fried foods.
