Happy Monday, sports fans.
The Boston Celtics couldn't have asked for a better start to the NBA Finals. On Sunday, they outlasted the Dallas Mavericks to take a 2-0 series lead that somehow feels even larger. Jayson Tatum may be the team's biggest star, but it has been the play of "the others" that has the Celtics in the driver's seat. Kristaps Porzingis, who hadn't played in a month, had a phenomenal start in Game 1, and Jrue Holiday is shooting 65.2% from the field this series. Meanwhile, it feels like Luka Doncic has been the only Maverick to really answer the bell. Will his teammates show up for Games 3 and 4 when the series shifts to Dallas? Consider this a sneak preview for the type of expert analysis and insight you will receive as a SportsLine subscriber.

DAN HURLEY REJECTS LAKERS' OFFER, WILL REMAIN AT UCONN
The Los Angeles Lakers swung for the fences and attempted to lure one of college basketball's top head coaches to the West Coast. However, UConn head coach Dan Hurley has rejected the Lakers' head-coaching offer, and will remain with the Huskies, reports our Matt Norlander. Hurley was offered a $70 million contract offer to make the jump to the NBA. On Friday, Hurley traveled to Los Angeles for an interview with Lakers brass before returning to Storrs to think it over. Norlander has more on what Hurley deciding to stay means for the basketball world.
Norlander:
"Hurley's decision is a quake to pro and college hoops. On the college side, this keeps UConn highly ranked heading into the 2024-25 season, reigniting the Huskies' hopes and dreams of a three-peat -- something last achieved in men's college basketball in the early 1970s by UCLA. The NBA fallout: Hurley's pass on the Lakers brings more speculation and recalibration regarding the timeline and new leading candidate for a legacy franchise looking to capitalize in the winter years of LeBron James' career. Previously, in the days before Hurley's name was attached to the vacancy, ESPN broadcaster/commentator JJ Redick had reportedly been the Lakers' top choice."
The Hot Ticket
Stanley Cup Final -- Game 2: Oilers at Panthers, 8 p.m. | TV: ABC
The Pick: Oilers (+117)
Key trend: The Oilers are 5-1 following a loss in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
SportsLine expert Jeff Hochman is 19-6 in his last 25 NHL picks.
Hochman: "The Florida Panthers have won all three meetings [this season] after taking Game 1 by a 3-0 score. Edmonton outshot Florida 32-18 and missed some easy shots that they normally convert. This team is well-coached and should make the necessary adjustments to bounce back. The Oilers are 5-1 after scoring one goal or less since January 1, and no team has won four straight against this Oilers roster in quite some time."
