Dehydration can occur quickly in toddlers. These are the key warning signs:
Dry mouth
Few or no tears when crying
Peeing less often, or dark yellow pee
Fewer wet nappies
Drowsiness and irritability
Four easy ways to keep on top of your baby and toddler's hydration this summer:
1. Keep it simple and just offer water - from the age of 1 to 3, the NHS recommends 1 litre of fluid a day - water is the best liquid to offer your child.
2. Little and often - keep a cup or bottle handy and offer water frequently.
3. Increase hydration with water filled snacks such as cucumbers, watermelon, oranges and strawberries. Making your own ice lollies is a great way to increase hydration in a fun and healthy way.
4. Role model and make sure you are regularly drinking water and speaking about how good it makes you feel!
