Sometimes hard things don’t make us stronger

Hi friends,

I want to dedicate this entire year to the Maker. Whether youre an intrapreneur or an entrepreneur. A Founder for years and years or just in your first week of self-employment. A side hustler or the person inventing all the exciting new things at your corporate gig. The person who MAKES things is the person I love.

The reason I feel called to release a million metaphorical balloons in the sky for the Makers and the Doers and the Founders is because I know it has been so. damn. hard. these last few years.

Heres just a few examples:

Just a few weeks ago, we got a bankruptcy notice from one of our clients.
Last weekend, I talked with another founder friend who has decided she has to sell her business.
And I strategized this very morning with an intrapreneur at his corporate gig about how to make his slashed budget work for the companys lofty content goals this year.

That old phrase: What doesnt kill you makes you stronger. Yeah, Im calling bullshit.

Bankruptcy doesnt make us stronger. Running out of funds for a growing business doesnt make us stronger. And having our budgets cut doesnt make us stronger.

It might make us more resilient. Might even make us more discerning or disciplined in the future. But its a bit gaslight-y to act like there is ALWAYS a lesson to be learned from getting kicked on our asses.

Its with this lens that I keep asking myself these 3 questions:

How can I make running a business easier for our brands?
How can I possibly use my business for good?
And how can I try my damndest to help the Makers win?

So a couple changes are coming atsoona this year that will roll out over the next few weeks.
