So, why should you LIFT and RIFT at 360?
LIFT 50 is our newest addition to the 360 schedule. 50 minutes of LIFTING to the beat.
RIFT 50 is the class you already know and love. 25min lifting and 25min riding, great for those of you who don't have oodles of time to spend at the studio.
Below we get into the nitty gritty's of why strength training is so important as we get older.
Researchers believe that declining physical activity levels are the likely explanation for the drop in cardiorespiratory fitness and shrinking of muscle fibres we might have assumed were an inevitable hallmark of ageing.
Our body normally keeps our growth and teardown signals in balance, but as we get older, we become less sensitive to the growth signals, and we lose flesh, to put it literally. Robust research tells us that after age 30, we lose 3-8% of muscle mass per decade.
We know that adults who do not perform regular resistance training lose approximately 0.46 kg of muscle annually from the fifth decade. Long-term adaption to resistance training reduces cortisol, increases energy for exercise and daily life, and relieves anxiety, depression, and insomnia.Key - Muscle is muscle, and 50-year-old muscle fibres continue to respond to resistance training.
