It being Valentines Day, spare a thought for the man himself, Saint Valentine.
A priest from 3rd Century Rome, Father Valentine was a rebellious soul and chose to defy the orders of the emperor Claudius II who had declared that all single men without families made for better fighters and banned all marriages in Rome.
However, Father Valentine ignored the emperor by secretly performing marriage services. Unfortunately, his mission to connect young lovers was discovered by the emperor and that turned into a prison sentence for Father V.
It is believed he subsequently fell in love with his jailors daughter and sent her the very first valentine letter, declaring his love for her.
And then he was executed. Brutal.
The moral of this story? Share yourappreciation for someone while you can!
