Kestrel
Dear Conservancy Supporter,
Because you're a dedicated supporter of nature, I thought you'd want to see this new behind-the-scenes video from our kestrel cam at our Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve in Utah.
This special footage shows a kestrel mom flying in to change places with the male kestrel who is brooding, or incubating the eggs, in the nest. Look closely and you'll get a view of the five little eggs they're protecting.
WATCH THE KESTRELS
Seeing the next generation of kestrels incubating in the nest is extra special because this precious little falcon is in decline. Over the last 50 years, half of their population has disappeared as the wetlands they need to build their homes and find food have been lost.
Sadly, factors including drought and climate change are causing the Great Salt Lake to shrink, and habitat around the Lake is being pressured by development. This is spelling trouble for the kestrels and millions of other migratory birds that rely on the Lake to survive.
That's why, with your support, our team in Utah is working to restore wetlands at our Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve. This area provides critical nesting and foraging habitat for more than 250 species of birds. And the birds love our preserve in fact, recent research estimates 25% more birds relied on the preserve's protected areas last year compared to 2020!
This is the kind of effective conservation you make possible. That's why I wanted to share this video with you it's an up-close look at the impact we're making together.
I hope this footage reminds you of all the good you're doing as a Nature Conservancy supporter.
Thank you for being with us.
Sincerely,
