Panther
Dear Conservancy Supporter,
Mysterious... rarely seen... and with only around 200 remaining in the wild dangerously close to being lost forever.
Florida panthers once roamed freely through the Southeast. But they've been boxed into less than 5% of their historic range, confined by dangerous highways and unchecked development. That's why, with your support, The Nature Conservancy is working with partners to create more safe passages for these elusive creatures.
A subspecies of puma, Florida panthers belong to the big cat family, which also includes lions, tigers and leopards. But do you know one of the features that sets them apart?
Test yourself: Unlike other big cats, what behavior can Florida Panthers NOT do?
CLIMB
ROAR
HUNT AT NIGHT
We have a long history of protecting panther habitat in Florida. In our most recent land protection victory, we helped secure a 661-acre conservation easement at Hendrie Ranch, a working cattle ranch with a diversity of forests and wetlands that provide critical habitat for the Florida panther, as well as the Florida black bear and Florida scrub jay.
And it's just one example of the impact you make possible for panthers and other threatened species. Thank you for helping save vulnerable wildlife and wild places.
With gratitude,
