I just love the 4th of July, dont you, Tim?
Theres nothing better than BBQ, an outdoor party with family, and fireworks, right?
Because nothing can boost your mood and calm your nervous system like one-on-one time with your people.
Thats because quality time with your friends and family, time spent laughing and enjoying great food and beautiful lights in the sky all of that boosts oxytocin, a chemical that creates feelings of happiness and contentment.
In fact, Id argue that its a great form of self-care.
Which is something Im betting you dont get enough of.
You see, self-care doesnt have to mean bubble baths and candles.
It doesnt have to mean getting your nails done or spending hours at the spa.
No, self-care isnt always some large, grandiose, complicated thing. It doesnt have to feel like a heavy weight. Yet another thing to add to your list.
For so many women self-care becomes something youve got to check off your to-do list.
Its a chore.
A bother.
But self-care means so much more than that.
Youve got to stop thinking about your body as a burden.
Stop thinking about your health as something thats nice-to-have.
You deserve to feel whole, fully in your power as a woman.
And self-care is how you find that power.
Here are 3 things I recommend to up your self-care game:
Focus on mindset first. When you view taking care of yourself as optional, its impossible to create a self-care routine that flows from a place of love and empowerment. Make yourself and your health non-negotiable.
Tuck self-care into stolen moments. You dont have to set aside three straight hours for your self-care routine. Taking little breaks throughout the day to reconnect with yourself and your body is a more effective way to stay present and powerful.
Remember, its all connected. Your mental health, your physical health, your pelvic floor, your nervous system, your hormones all of itits all connected. When you treat yourself like the strong, powerful Queen you are, your whole entire body benefits.
So, if self-care doesnt mean a bath with a glass of wine, what does self-care mean?

I KNOW THE STRUGGLE. You might not know this about me, but there was a time when I couldnt even heal myself!
It was after the birth of my daughter in 2004.
Her birth was intense, and my postpartum recovery was pure hell. I had the new mom trifecta of leaking, painful lovemaking, and bladder prolapse
And no one had warned me about how it would affect literally every part of my life. In those days, there wasnt enough information on pelvic health, and so I suffered for a long time in silence and in shame. I had zero libido, and I felt a wave of guilt every time I told my partner I wasnt in the mood
I carried panty liners and pads everywhere I went
And I could barely do everyday things, like lifting my daughter or walking around the supermarket
I felt like half a woman. And when I finally said, enough is enough and started making appointments with the best doctors in NYCI discovered that they actually had no clue what was going on with me!
I took myself on a Doctor Road Show where I was prescribed pain meds, muscle relaxers, and even Botox injections for my lady parts (ouch!). I paid out thousands of dollars to these doctors and I still had no answers. Not one of these doctors touched or examined my pelvic floor.
Sadly, this is the reality today for many women. Maybe this is your experience too.
