There are a number of ways to cook a brat - on a grill, steamed, over a campfire, broiled - we are here in your inbox to go over some of the most common ways to cook the perfect bratwurst.
Chef's Note: Never puncture a bratwurst while its cooking. The juices trapped in the casing are what gives the brat its flavor. Puncturing allows that flavor that escape!

On the Stove
You Will Need:
Cast iron skillet*
Bratwursts
Onions, sliced
Butter
Wisconsin beer, chefs choice
*A regular frying pan will also work.
Directions
Place the skillet over medium high heat. Melt a tablespoon of butter. Add bratwursts and onions and cook for a few minutes until onions are tender. Add enough beer to cover the brats 1 inch. Flip brats and stir onions frequently until brats are firm and browned on all sides. Let beer evaporate. To retain flavor, do not puncture bratwurst.
Serve withmustardon a bun.
On a Grill
A grill*
Butter, melted
*Charcoal, gas, pellet - whatever type of grilling you prefer, grilled is definitely a great way to go with cooking brats.
In a container, add the onions, beer, and butter; mix well. Add the raw bratwursts and marinate for at least two hours, but overnight is better if you can.
Place brats on a hot grill when ready. Flip often until firm and browned all over.

Broil
Cover bottom of broiler pan with water. Place sausage on rack 5-6 inches from broiler element. Broil 5-8 minutes or until brown and crispy.
Campfire
Cook in a pan over a hot campfire.(Youcould cook a brat by piercing it with a stick and holding it over the flames, but as we noted, piercing it will reduce the flavor because the juices will release.)
Steam
Drop bratwursts into boiling water. Turn off heat and let sit for 10 minutes.
