A Musical Journey & Collaboration 5 years in the Making
Los Angeles is an industry town comprised of Hollywood people and music people. As you can imagine, this makes for fun dinner party conversations. Coming from NYC, where the fashion industry dominated, it was a welcome shift. Back in 2019, when I first arrived in LA to set up Rendall Co, I found myself part of a tight knit and lovely crew of friends who gathered together often. And at one of these parties, my musician friend Miguel and I began a years long conversation about collaborating on a jacket. You see, Miguel is a super stylish dude, and we would geek out on all things apparel-associated. Finally, this spring our idea turned into a reality - The Skygazer Jacket, a limited edition merch item for Miguel's band, Lord Huron.
DESIGN DETAILS ABOUND
Based on our classic CPO shirt jacket, we re-designed it to tell a story to LH's fanbase. We included different textures, embroideries, patches, and chainstitches. The colors, incredibly, were inspired by a berry bush that I spotted while out on a walk in our neighborhood, Silver Lake. We showcased all of LH's albums, as well as threw in a few easter eggs for their loyal fans, nicknamed The World Enders, who go wild for the lore surrounding the band. One of LH's most famous lyrics was chainstitched on the back, "May You Live Until You Die". Using a super soft Portuguese canvas and garment dyed to a vibrant green, the result is a versatile shirt jacket.
The jacket debuted at Lord Huron's back to back sold out shows at Red Rocks in Colorado, and was a massive hit. Fans lined up in scorching heat for three hours at a chance to snag one of the limited edition jackets.
I was lucky enough to head to Denver myself and help sell the jacket. It was SO fun to interact with customers and see all the smiles, words of gratitude and excitement.
It was my second year watching LH play at Red Rocks. They keep producing magic, and we at Rendall Co loved being a part of it.
