Livermore Labs to provide optical payload for U.S. Space Force Mission - More Details Below
WASHINGTON - The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has announced that a space imaging payload they developed has been chosen for a mission by the U.S. Space Force.
This mission, called Victus Haze, aims to test the military's ability to quickly deploy satellites in response to threats in space.
The launch is scheduled for 2025 and will involve two spacecraft, one from Rocket Lab and another from True Anomaly, performing maneuvers in close proximity.
The payload from Livermore will be integrated into Rocket Lab's vehicle.
The Space Force anticipates that contractors must be prepared to launch at a moment's notice for the Victus Haze mission, which is described as "tactically responsive."
Lt. Col. Jason Altenhofen, the director of operations for the Space Force's Space Safari program, expressed gratitude to LLNL for providing their advanced optical payload for this crucial demonstration.
He emphasized that agile integration and quick on-orbit initialization of external payloads are essential factors in achieving the objectives of the Victus Haze mission.

Ben Bahney, the leader of Lawrence Livermore's space science and security program, informed through a statement that the laboratory is set to deliver a monolithic telescope constructed from a single piece of fused silica.
This innovation eliminates the necessity for alignment and calibration post-manufacture, all the while ensuring the highest achievable resolution.
The monolithic telescope at Livermore was created and patented by the lab's staff.
