Urban Ecosystems | Living Among the Plants, Animals, & Fungi of NYC
Thursday, April 20, 6:30pm
Eat, drink, and join us for an evening of eco-centric storytelling just in time for Earth Day. Explore the vast network of biodiversity that lives between buildings and among urban green spaces of the Big Apple. Then, enjoy a tasting with locally-sourced plant-based cheeses, crackers, cocktails and mocktails crafted by Candace Thompson, manager of Solar 1's Stuy Cove Park.
MCNY curator and food justice activist MonxoLpezwill leadtheconversation with a group ofNYC foragers, farmers, land stewards, community gardeners, and seed savers including Yemi Amu, founder and director of Oko Urban Farms;Marielle Anzelone, botanist and biodiversity activist;Sigrid Jakob, president of the New York Mycological Society;William Mullan, an artist and apple forager and photographer;Iakowi:he'ne' Oakes, founder and executive director of the North American Indigenous Center of New York; and park managerCandace Thompson.

World Premiere: The Parsonage

Music can tell a story. An inconspicuous townhouse in the East Village was at the heart of eight dramatic moments in New York City history. These stories inspired The Parsonage, a new song cycle with a libretto by David Hajdu and music by eight composers bridging the worlds of jazz, classical, and "post-classical" music. Join us for the world premiere of this album, featuring live performances by Theo Bleckmann, Alicia Olatuja, Dan Tepfer, and a chamber-jazz ensemble.
