New Year, New Books, New You!

Back in October, I found myself without a real job and certainly without my salary of the last six years, and I decided to do a bunch of stuff, not least of which was starting the Devils Book Club.

We got some 70 sign ups, which is big for a book club, if just under my goal of 80 people.

Folks just re-upped for another three months, and Im thrilled to say that more than 95% of those folks said, Hell, yes, give me more of THIS!

Its incredibly soul-nourishing to work in books in a year that books are quite literally on the ballot, and books are seen as more dangerous than guns by one of the two major political parties.

As one half of the Best Bookstore in Palm Springs, I get to talk with authors all the time, I read about five books a week, and I write our newsletters, and our semi-unhinged neon recommendation cards. But the most intimate conversations, explorations and my best recommendations go to the Devils Book Club.

A lot of you told me that the fourth quarter was just too manic to join a new book club, and I get it.

Now, maybe? Id still love to get to that 80 person goal, and Id love to have even more people to talk about books with.

Books are magical.

Maybe you cant muster the energy for a lot of the things you think you should be doing in 2024. Travel, gratitude, connection, increased empathy, learning new things. . . books are the most cost effective way I know to get mostly there in all those categories.
