Lab Tests can reveal the answer
You Shouldn't Be Tired All The Time
You Shouldn't Just Accept Being Tired
Sometimes the cause of fatigue is obvious for example, getting over Covid or the flu or falling short on sleep. But when its not so apparent, it could be that a vitamin, nutrient, or mineral deficiency is part of the problem. Thats when lab tests can be particularly helpful. Here are some of the reasons your brain seems to be going into screensaver mode.
Low Iron
Poor oxygen delivery due to iron deficiency can result in fatigue. (Interestingly, it may also show up as muscle fatigue during a workout.) A blood test to check for iron can help you know whether an iron supplement can help. It can also help you tweak your diet to ensure you get more iron from foods like red meat, dark leafy greens, and legumes. And re-testing your iron levels helps you know if the changes are enough.
Low Vitamin B12
Your body needs sufficient vitamin B12 in order to produce healthy red blood cells. Those red blood cells transport oxygen from the lungs to other parts of the body, which is why low B12 can lead to fatigue. If youre deficient, and dont get much animal protein, supplements may be needed. B12 is highest in meat, fish, milk, cheese and eggs.
Low Vitamin DA deficit of Vitamin D can sap bone and muscle strength, cause you to feel a bit low, and generally feel fatigue. Vitamin D is naturally found in some foods, although the biggies might not be in your regular rotation at the moment. Think: cod liver oil, trout, and Sockeye salmon. But luckily D is also added to certain products (like fortified cereal and milk). If nutrition changes arent enough, and a deficiency is detected, supplements might do the trick.
